FAQs
Physical shares are share certificates issued in paper form before the era of electronic (demat) holding. SEBI mandated that all securities must be held in demat form for trading. However, physical shares are still legally valid and can be converted into demat form through a process called dematerialisation. Finvriddhi specialises in assisting clients who hold old physical share certificates.
To dematerialise physical shares, you need a Demat Account with a Depository Participant (DP), the original share certificates duly signed, a Dematerialisation Request Form (DRF), and a PAN card. The process typically takes 15 to 30 days. Finvriddhi guides you step-by-step through the dematerialisation process, handling paperwork and coordination with the Registrar and Transfer Agent (RTA).
Lost or damaged share certificates can still be recovered. The process involves filing a police complaint (for lost certificates), publishing a newspaper notice, and applying for duplicate certificates with the company or RTA with an indemnity bond. Finvriddhi has experience in handling such cases and assists clients in recovering the value of lost physical shares.
Many old share certificates are valuable — companies may have changed names, merged, or gone through stock splits and bonuses, which can significantly increase their value. Some companies may have been delisted. Finvriddhi traces the current status of your old shares, checks for corporate actions, and helps you unlock their value.
Dividends and shares that have been unclaimed for 7 or more consecutive years are transferred to the IEPF by companies. If your physical shares or dividends have lapsed to IEPF, you can still reclaim them. Finvriddhi assists with filing IEPF refund claims on behalf of shareholders or their legal heirs.
Physical shares can be transmitted to the legal heirs or nominees of a deceased shareholder through a transmission process. The heirs need to submit a transmission request along with the death certificate, legal heir certificate or succession certificate, and indemnity bond. Finvriddhi assists families in completing the transmission process smoothly.
